I love that quote you mention, by famous high wire walker Karl Wallenda, "To be on the wire is life; the rest is waiting.".

Sums up everything really, Charlotte.

Thank you for sharing more of your recollections.

Thank you so much for another beautiful story from your life Charlotte. It definitely takes a certain type of person to be a stuntman, and also bravery to be married to one. You handled that situation with far more grace, patience and wisdom than I would have been able to muster 😆

It’s amazing how some of our most remembered moments in movies are actually performed by those who stay invisible behind the role another actor is portraying, and how much body work must go into keeping the audience completely unaware so as to keep the fluidity and integrity of the plot.

Thank you for giving us a glimpse into your adventures 🙏🏾🤗🤗

Thank you, dear love! 🤗

I handled the situation because I knew I had to do so. I've tried digging into my memory files to learn how I was invited that day and a few others. It's not coming into focus for me. But it was good for me, and it helped me understand that these stunts are dangerous. When you bid your loved one goodbye before work, you have to consider they might not come back to kiss you again. That's a tough life, and the only payoff is the money, which stunt performers make an excellent living. I can't imagine being married to someone like Hal Needham and the stress his wife had to have faced. Needham, the best stuntman to live, should have been famous, but he remained primarily invisible to the public. His story is told in the movie starring Brad Pitt, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

I was happy when God changed our path. 🙏💞💫

Sending you love and magic! ✨✨💖✨✨

I enjoy these very much! Your prose captures that period with the same beautiful longing that the old photos do.

And then we have "doing crazy stunts like walking along the edge of the Empire State Building with a camera to show the height of his stunt" which brings us to today's TikTok stunts :)

Thank you Bartleby for the kind compliment. 🤗It’s very much appreciated.💖✨ When Fred described walking on the Empire State building with the camera and Spider-Man, he said, it looked like a picture when looking down” Me, who lives in fear of heights I could not imagine being higher than up on a 3 foot ladder. Another cool story told so well. I did laugh at the slow falling effect when the people fell, so 70s. I know it was 80 but still.

Yes absolutely I agree Chris and so many of those action films they focus would be on the slow-mo fall. I never thought about it until now when you brought it up. Very astute observation.

It's just wonderful and our joy, Charlotte, that you share your life, your amazing stories with us. I am so grateful that I discovered your substack. Truly we're fortunate you are a great writer as well. You brought me there with you. I watched these actors in their movies, but they weren't so human to me as they are now. Thank You!

Reading you and Jonathan's history as stunt people is a real treat, Charlotte—shows how much work has to go into even "safe" stunts like the ones done on a set where you assume they're far more controlled than on location.

author

Thank you, I do you much appreciation DR! Absolutely I agree, although much effort is made to plan stunts both on a set; on a sit you can control your environment. Have a wonderful weekend!✨💜

Great as usual, of course.

One of my biggest regrets was not being able to go out for the narration when Paul Newman voiced the documentary “Dale” which we did about the life of Dale Earnhardt, Sr. (Newman had just recently been “Doc” in the Pixar movie “Cars.”)

Then he passed a few years later.

Also, I love music trivia, but I always thought it was Dr. John who sang that song!

Thank you, yes that would have been great to have seen and heard Newman’s narration. and he is so sad when he passed we’ve certainly lost a great actor and human being.

I wasn’t sure who did that song until I looked it up yesterday! Lol!😂

Have a beautiful day! Thank you again!
