Very cool… I remember being in Vegas as the “Sands” was being leveled to make room for Disney (Pirate land whatever), as one of my letters had made an impression on Moon or one of the NBC’s made men, who somberly dismissed Letterman’s bid for Carson’s cherished cherry after his train wreck of an interview with the first lady of Las Vegas… While staying in Santra’s old room at the Riviera it was a memorial visit. Including their GoTo Vegas showgirls in “Splash” the Union Strike across the street at Circus Circus, and the offer to work with management of the Sorcery’s Apprentice opening… After those idiots burned those ppl alive in Waco TX. Old Las Vegas was in some kind of odd transition.

Yes Doug, Las Vegas is in a perpetual transition. The stand was demolished to make room for the Venetian. Disney was never in Vegas the Venetian has recently sold as a few years ago. Many changes occurring now. Thank you for commenting! I hope you’re having a wonderful summer! sending you much love 🤗💖✨

Doug as in “Gray”?! Im gonna take that as a compliment, but I doubt “Marshal Tucker” would; (Although I know what you mean, I think😎). However, perhaps you may miss mine. The point being was not so much as Vegas “was” Disney but rather had that “twist” that made one feel like “Toto… We are not in Kansas anymore!” Thank you Charlotte, and congrats on your new assignment. Break a leg!

Congratulations on your radio show.

I've thought Bobby Darrin was the least known of the 4. He had a great voice and I enjoyed his television show. I couldn't believe it when he died so suddenly & young.

Yes I think Bobby Darin is the least known today of those four. But I honestly thought he was the best of all of them. He had the best songs in the best of voice. I never met him and it’s unfortunate he died so young. Such an amazing talent! Thank you so much prof! have a beautiful weekend!✨🤗💖

I love this post Charlotte! When I go to Vegas I still stay at Caesar’s. Even with all the new hotels, it’s still my fave. Your new show sounds like it will be a fun retrospective look at Sin City. Frank Sinatra gets my vote. What a life that guy had! All the best! Sabrinalabow.substack.com

That must have quite the experience. You took in the old Las Vegas. I know people are healthier, but I sometimes miss the days of being able to smoke indoors. Hope your show is a success.

Thank you for your look back, which made me aware how deep your connection to this city is. And as always, I enjoy reading your memoirs. Vegas then and Vegas now seem to be two different worlds, and it is fascinating to learn about this world.

For me, there is a big “BUT”.

I love the landscapes of Nevada, Arizona and Utah, but that's the only thing I love there.

I'd been only once to Vegas in 2020 at the start of the plandemic. This was good because it was not crowded, but this visit had been a double visit — first and last time at once. Nothing, absolutely nothing of this artificial world attracted me, and the gambling showed me how many stupid people are around. Everything in this town feels dated, worn and setup for making the fast buck. Yes, the shows were impressive, but it is simply too much.

It's worse than Orlando because in Orlando, the madness is not concentrated on the same level.

Apart from this, it feels for me that this city is run by idiotic people. If you stand at the outlook over the dying Lake Mead you cannot understand that nobody says “Stop”. We had good meetings with local people who taught us the craziness of all what happens, and explained that all this is caused by greed and corruptness. So they do their best that this city won't exist anymore in 50 years from now.

What, if all this money would be used for good causes?

Klaus, thank you!!! 😍😍😍

You have intriguing observations. The fascinating thing about Las Vegas are the timelines. My parents first visited in 1959 when there were about 90,000 people living in the middle of the desert. By the time I moved there in the 1980s it was a city of about the size of Stockton California or less. From about 1986 until I moved away in 2000 it had grown to over 2 million people. A massive amount of growth in that. Period Timelines changed as well as buildings were torn down or imploded to make way for newer casinos and hotels. The same thing is happening today. Many of those hotels that I saw being billed are now being imploded to make away for the next generation of Las Vegas. I don’t see it as good or bad people. They are good and bad. It just is.
