Aye was used for the Welsh [brytonic people] kings and also Arthur Pendragon in mythology. I think that's how I originally seen your substack , I love history.

I really felt your passion and love of life in this piece, Charlotte. I felt like I wanted to eat that spaghetti and be on that ship on those high seas. And I also enjoyed the way you describe the way dancers relate to music.

Any guy who loves the dogs is a good egg. ❤️

Oh and what a fab picture of you too - really showcases your smile!

I loved watching these ‘illusions’ … thank you for posting them. You transported me to an earlier place, the magic captured my inner child. Never want to know how it is done … because it is magic 💜. Oh, and so gorgeous 🥰

Thanks for opening the paywall on this, Charlotte - I so enjoyed it- from the explanation of the copyright laws and how they limited ability to use on film as opposed to live (totally new to me), to how you made me understand the integral part music pays in magical performance. And isn’t that Skyline chili the best!? We lived near Cincinnati years ago. So enjoyable, thank you for sharing. 🥰✨✨

Another excellent piece, Charlotte. You have a talent to tell a story in a magical way. Your writing is captivating. There are so many good and agreeable sentiments you bring up, how your dogs were well-treated, the unpredictability and wonder of performing on the high seas, the orchestra pits and, of course, the importance of music

"Music brings people together in a shared cultural experience; bonding them emotionally together "

I always found this to be true. I have loved music as far back as I could remember.

We forget the harmony involved in the performers and the music and the need for the conductor to be aware of all that is going on in the room. In this film you can see the conductor having to watch the performers and conduct according to the performers movements. It's a tough job and one forgets how the whole thing had to come together in one harmonious presentation. Wow, I loved the story and I was amazed how you remarked about the "excitement" in picking the music. All I could think is how hard that would be to bring it all together. Pure entertainment and your writing creates another piece that must also sync to the whole theme. Bravo!!!

AHHHHH wonderful - my most magical symphonic experience was the Carmina Burana with Eduardo Mata conducting the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in 1994; to have the Fortuna welling up inside me is still an absolutely thrilling musical memory!

I so enjoyed reading this, Charlotte! How sad they filled in the orchestra pits. I can’t imagine how grand and immersive the performances must have been. Thank you so much for sharing these pieces from your fascinating story!

Oh my goodness Charlotte! This whole piece was just amazing! I read it all to John and he insisted we watch the entire PBS special! Amazed at the tiny theater and your sweetest Samy's fitting into that!! 🤩 We both cringed with you being saw'd in half 😭 and were mind blown with the last act, how you switched out in the trunk 😮🤯. We had much to say, like you, regarding orchestra/symphony/pops experiences ☺️ As you know music is our life and John is in two symphonies. We had a theater kid so the orchestra in costume was sooo cool and we talked about "who must have outfitted them all?" We were very tied into The Theater Co. out here in Upland, Ca., who still costumes many world-wide productions. I also covered theater with live pit orchestras 📷 (rehearsal night only). This is one of my favorites from you! We absolutely feel so blessed by it and our own discussion of music and magic Thank you for sharing your incredible experiences with us all. Love you Charlotte. oxoxox
