Thank you Jan! I figured it’s a pretty good time to write it because it is near my birthday. I appreciate you reading it and commenting. Smokey Robinson was quite a talent. 🤗✨💖
Yes, I am the same way Mike! Thank you. I too listen to the musicality of the song rather than the lyrics. But when I learned about the lyrics it was even a better song for me. Behind our tears is always a happiness. Sad clowns are a reminder it’s OK to cry, but there’s happiness behind every teardrop 💧
Happy early birthday!!! What a beautiful story, Charlotte. I so enjoyed reading about the special relationship you had with Smokey, and how lovely of him to serenade you and gift you the little clown! You never know what sorrows a person is hiding behind their smile. I hope you are having a beautiful weekend ❤️
Thank you Jen! I am having a fabulous weekend. I had forgotten about this story, and then I was reminded because it’s my birthday month. So I thought, what a Time to put it out there. I keep my little figurine by my make up table as a reminder that sometimes we have to put on a happy face even when we are sad. But a sad clown allows us our tears. Stay magical!✨🤗💖
That is a beautiful reminder. My youngest has a birthday this month, too. February is a good month for a birthday—a nice bright spot and celebration of life in the depths of winter. ❤️
February is a great birthday month. As a kid in school February was always a special month and called the birthday month because two Presidents, Lincoln and Washington had birthdays this month. So all the kids who had February b’days were singled out. I felt oddly special. Plus all that pink and red for Valentines Day added that color of celebration, and pink was my favorite. And then after my birthday I knew spring was coming soon!
Thank you so much Cygnus X-1, i’d forgotten about it and then I thought about my birthday month and remembered this story. I still have the cute little Pierrot clown in the picture. I keep it by my make up table. A perfect place for it to live. Sometimes we all have to put on a smiling face when we don’t want to.
Oh you certainly did Charlotte! It’s great you are documenting it. It’s like a history of life/entertainment in America during the golden years OF entertainment—all that talent!! Love your insights and accounts.
Jeanine thank you! I really love recording all these moments, and at the time I took them for granted. I was living an amazing life and didn’t know it. Lol! Have a beautiful day! ✨🤗💖
Happy birthday in advance, Charlotte! This is a wonderful story - I like Smokey Robinson too and your first-person account was fascinating to read. I find Tears of a Clown poignant, and I agree that understanding when someone's smile hides their tears is important - many a person was lost for lack of a bit of kindness. Cheers, Jayshree
Sending you much appreciation for your kind review Jayshree. I’m blessed to have had these experiences so I can share them along with learning life wisdom. Have a beautiful weekend! ✨🤗💖
That song is what I call stealthy - it reminds of merriment, the melody invites joy but the lyrics tell a different story. Certain fragments of that song ran through my head as I read this. They still are anchored in the impressions of the light nature of the tune.
Wishing you the happiest of birthdays Charlotte! Thanks for sharing another magical memory featuring Smokey Robinson. And that you still have the doll he gave you lo those many years ago! Wow!
Oh! It’s my birthday month for sure Michelle! I’ve been nibbling on a tin of Favid’s Cookies! One section is left and will last the rest of the month! Lol! Sending much love my friend! I hope you are well! ✨🤗💖
Very nice write and Happy Birthday next week, young lady!
Ah, to be 85 again knowing what I know now. ;-)

I had heard that song a million times and never listened to the lyrics! I always thought it was a happy song which is somewhat poetic.

So true! It's a new favorite song of mine now
So upbeat, happy. When I’m sad I like to listen to it! 😍
