Another brilliant glimpse into the world of iconic performers. I loved learning about Dean Martin's background and personality. I've always enjoyed listening to him sing and thought him softer than Frank, less prone to outbursts of cruelty. You've done a great job here of revealing more of the man and his innate talent. Thank you, Charlotte.✨

Thank you so much Trudi, I guess that’s how he got his name - King of Cool! 😎 by being calm and collected at all times, unlike Sinatra. I’m so happy you liked it! ✨💖✨

When you realize the toughness of Dean Martin's background, it makes one wonder how he could have taken the abuse he took from Jerry Lewis and not throttled that guy. I have heard all of Jerry's harangues from his interviews with Dick Cavett and others,(the big one was in February of 1973, which I watched when I was in my final months of high school), regarding how he drugged Martin to make him appear incompetent when they were on the road.

Dean Martin took things seriously, but it appears he never wanted to erupt on people when he was wronged. I guess he had seen enough of the mafia and the steel mills to let that kind of problem bother him and he just kept plowing forward.

Great article.

Sending you much gratitude David, I you reading my article, and taking the time to read leave your thoughts. Yeah, Jerry could be a rascal. It’s reported their fight begin win Dean didn’t like playing the straight man to Jerry’s comedy character. Jerry received the bulk of media attention compared to Dean. So apparently Dean became very frustrated and finally quit when the media began showing just Jerry attention and treating him as a solo performer. For Jerry’s purred he was probably jealous of Dean’s good looks, talent etc. I’ve worked with a lot of comedians and I noticed many are very insecure. I’m happy they reunited because I think that’s good for your soul.

Dean Martin is definitely a lesson and how to take the highroad pup. I am reminded about that when I look at my relationship with my ex-husband. Who although divorced 15 years ago continues to harass me in social media for his own gratification. I took the highroad and I have never attacked him. So when I think of hell Dean took the highroad I am happy I did the same.

Thank you again David, and I hope you enjoy a beautiful weekend! Stay magical!🪄✨✨💖✨

I just posted a note saying that every time I hang out at your stack I find myself having to shake myself down for glitter and sequins, your offerings are so star studded!

Yes weirdly my first boyfriend was named Dino and he was named after him. His mum adored him and that’s where I first heard him. I always remember her playing ‘That’s Amore’.

What a smoothie!

I love these stories from your past… your writing flows like a conversation over wine or coffee! My folks were big on Dean and Frank… I remember Dean being so good looking; his demoststive singing style. I remember our visits to Vegas of the 80s… that it was mob town but we loved it anyway. (I was raised in Detroit…another big mob entity.) I appreciate this peek into Dean’s background, how you weave research, details with your own personal times with this iconic guy! Great writing, great story Charlotte! Thank you! ❤️🥰

Thank you so much Joanne, sending you much gratitude and love for your support. When you think about it, all the big cities in those days were controlled by the mob. From Los Angeles to the little dusty Hamlet of Las Vegas to St. Louis down to New Orleans up to Chicago all throughout the Ohio rust belt and then you have all the cities in New York, Philadelphia, up to Boston. They pretty much ran the entire United States. Their influence was that great. I was there watching Las Vegas change hands. As the mob Phil and corporate America took over. I much for preferred the mob. Again thank you so much and I hope you enjoy a beautiful weekend!✨💖✨

You always hear stories of the famous New York City mobsters and forget that the mafia was in other cites, like Youngstown. I love Dean Martin. He was so handsome and I didn’t know he had an affair with Lansky’s daughter!

Vegas must have been a blast back then. It’s nice to hear how generous those guys were. I read that Dean Martin was never the same after the loss of his son. Such a tragic loss.

I love these Vegas stories!

Thank you so much Allison! Sending you much gratitude and love. I just mentioned to Joan how The mob pretty much controlled most of the United States at one time. I was in Las Vegas when I saw the mob taken down and corporate America brought in. I much prefer the mob. It’s a good thing Lansky didn’t find out about the affair. She told a story how when one mobster insulted her at dinner when she was a kid her dad face turn cold in humorless. The next day she read in the paper he was murdered at a restaurant.😬

I believe it. I worked with a lot of people in NYC who were from Brooklyn and Queens whose dads had side gigs with the mob. My best friend grew up in Staten Island and her school yearbook was literally who’s who in the NY Mafia!😂

Where I grew up in California the Mafioso was Misterioso!! Lol! I finally ran into it when I moved to Las Vegas. There is an a person that lives there that isn’t there because of the mob earning an excellent living! I can well imagine living in New York and being exposed to much of the mob influence. I moved to Philadelphia in 1982 and their influence was more apparent than in Las Vegas. In fact I think we rented a house from them. At least that’s what I was told. The family would invite us out to dinner to their house and she made the most awesome Italian food. Nice family who I have stayed in contact with through the years.

Wonderful, Charlotte! Though I'm of a later generation, Dean Martin has always been one of my most favorite singers, so your behind the curtain glimpses and experiences are fascinating to me! What a treat watching that 76 reunion with Sinatra & Lewis, too.

Thank you so much @J.Q. Graziano I am thrilled you enjoyed the article. I appreciate your support. Dean Martin’s he day begin long before I was ever born in the 40s and 50s and throughout the 60’s and beyond. He’d already been in the business for 46 years before I met him. In the mid-80s he was part of the older generation. My mother’s age, and I had older parents. Lol! At the time, I didn’t appreciate meeting these greats as much as I do now. Have a wonderful day! ✨💖✨

😁 Love it! Not sure if it's a part of my personality type or just getting older, but I find the "true" stories of celebrities fascinating in the human (and mythological) sense.

Heroes & Legends, blessed with some magnificent boon - talent, looks, riches, luck - they seismically shift the world and permanently imprint upon our unfolding culture. Yet their hearts pumped the same blood as everyone else's, with personal (and often privately protected) desires, triumphs, and defeats. Fortes as well as Foibles.

Irrevocably & Beautifully human.

As they say, "we all put our pants on one leg at a time" - although, come to think of it, that may not be the case with someone of your magical skills . . . 🤔✨

He was my favourite singer when I was growing up. My mum and dad loved Bing Crosby. I remember them going to see him at the London Palladium. But Dean was a lot cooler to a young man like me. How lucky to have actually met him, Charlotte. I'm really, really jealous. You lucky thing!
